SICILY, Gela, (c.490-480 B.C.), silver didrachm, (8.61 g), obv. naked horseman to right wearing crested helmet, galloping right brandishing spear held high in his hand, rev. man headed bull to right with long beard, to right and below **G E L A*, (S.713, Jenkins Group Ic, 69 (obv 21, rev. 32), SNG Cop.256 [same dies], cf.Hirmer [Pl.42]). Lightly toned, off centred and minor surface pitting on the obverse, otherwise nearly extremely fine.

Ex George Mihailuk Collection, purchased from Len Barton, antique and coin dealer, Paddington in the 1960s.
