MARCUS AURELIUS, (A.D. 161-180), gold aureus, Rome mint, issued A.D. 159-160, (7.20 g), obv. bare headed draped bust of Marcus Aurelius to right, around AVRELIVS CAES AVG PII F, rev. around TR POT XIIII COS II, Mars walking right, holding spear and trophy, (S.4773, RIC 481b, Calico 1973, BMC 994). Well struck and well centred, extremely fine and rare.

Ex Harlan Berk with ticket. Ex Goldberg 91, lot 2023 and Goldberg 80, lot 3498. Previously Gemini XI, lot 448. Also Numismatik Lanz Auction 150, lot 311 (incorrectly weighed as 6.44 g).
