CARACALLA, (A.D. 198-217), gold aureus, issued 214, Rome mint, (6.89 g), obv. laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right of Caracalla, around ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, rev. Pluto seated left, wearing polos on head, holding sceptre and placing hand over the three-headed dog, Cerberus to left, around P M TR P XVII IMP III COS IIII P P, (S.-, RIC 242, BMCRE 96 same dies, Calico 2717, C.253). Very mild smoothing at edge, struck on a broad flan, good very fine or better and rare.
