INDIA, Mogul, Muhammad Jahangir (A.H. 1014-1037), (A.D. 1605-1628), square gold mohur, heavy issue (13.93 g), Lahore mint, A.H. year 1016, Regnal year 3, (KM. 184.1, BMC 294). Extremely fine and very rare, probably the finest known example.

Ex Taraprewalla Collecrtion of the 1920s, who was the accountant of the Nizam of Hyderabad, given by his grandnephew to the current owner about 1990.

A heavy special 25% overweight presentation type issue from the early part of his reign. The issue has poetic couplet on the reverse "he made the face of money to shine with hues of the sun and moon", together with the mint formula zarb Lahore.
