ANCIENT BRITISH, Gallo-Belgic imports, uninscribed coinage, gold stater (7.31g) Gallo-Belgic Aal, swirling hair, head right and bird type (c175-170BC) (S.1va, Sills 259; ABC 1 var; Van A 10-1 var, Evans A1-2 var). Struck on a broad flan, very fine with good facial details and design on the horse, attractive and excessively rare.

Private purchase from Chris Rudd, list 114 #3, 10/1/11, with tickets and Noble Numismatics Sale 115 (lot 4565) (North Queensland collector). This is the fifth known specimen of this type, it was found at Wakes Colne in Essex and is the first specimen to come to light with a securely recorded findspot in 150 years.
