QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal. 90 Tpr: C.Richardson. Eastn: Prov: Horse. Impressed. Hairlines and some small surface markes, otherwise very fine.

Charles Richardson, clerk, born in England; Enl.12Feb1900; Disch.15Nov1900 on termination of period of service, signed at Krugersdorp.

Information from the book titled Steinaecker's Horsemen by William (Bill) Woolmore, p276, 'Richardson, Charles, Trooper No.1498: Born England 2 April 1878. He may be the C.Richardson who served as Corporal No.348 in the British South Africa Police during the Matabele rebellion in 1896 and again during the 1897 campaign in Rhodesia. Previous Anglo-Boer War service as Trooper No.90 in the Eastern Province Horse (17 months) and as Trooper No.831 in the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles. Enlisted in SH (Steinaecker's Horse) at PMB (Pietermaritzburg) on 5 October 1901 - clerk, age 23, height 5'7", grey eyes, fair hair, tattoos on both forearms, address: Durban. NOK: father, Turnbridge Wells, Kent. Discharged at Komati Poort on 7 February 1903 following disbandment of the regiment. He qualified for the QSA medal with clasps Cape Colony, OFS & Transvaal and his KSA with the two date clasps was issued from the SH roll.'
