GROUP OF SIX: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal; King's South Africa Medal 1902, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902; 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 with MID; French Croix de Guerre 1914-1917 with bronze Star emblem. 13554 Tpr: M.Duquenry. (sic) 68th Coy Imp:Yeo: on first medal, Tpr. M.Duquenoy 68th Co. I.Y. (Paget's Horse) on second medal, 255 Sgt. M.Duquenoy. 4/L.H. Rgt. A.I.F. on third medal, Lieut. M.Duquenoy. on fourth and fifth medals, last medal unnamed as issued. The second medal officially engraved, all other named medals impressed (note that first medal has the surname spelt incorrectly). Court mounted and attached to a cardboard display sheet with b&w photograph of recipient and printed details of his service, very fine - uncirculated.

Note: In Lieut. M.Duquenoy's Australian Service File there is correspondence to the effect that the 1914-15 Star was issued by the Department of Defence, Australia and the remaining medals by the War Office in England.

MID: (2) Supplement to LG 5/7/1919, p8491, to Lt. M.Duquenoy G.Gds (S.R.).

There is a document from the Secretary of State for War dated 1st July 1919 addressed to Lt. M.Duquenoy, G.Gds. (S.R.) advising that he was mentioned in a Despatch from Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig, K.T., G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., K.C.I.E. dated 16th March 1919 for gallant and distinguished services in the Field.

With a French document for the above award to Lieutenant M.Duquenoy 3rd Grenadier Guards, (translation of French text) - Summoned to co-operate with a French Army in the operations of the 31st July, he distinguished himself remarkably in his command during the course of the attack.

Max Duquenoy, born at Balham, Middlesex, England; Boer War: Enl.27Mar1900 at age of 21; L/Cpl with 68th Coy, 19Bn, Imperial Yeomanry (Paget's Horse); Disch.10May1901 to join Johannesburg Mounted Police as a Trooper; Appt'd Sgt 01Mar1902; Appt'd Superintendent 01Sep1903; in 1907 Superintendent Duquenoy was praised in the 'Southern Express' newspaper for the capture of a bank robber; Disch.30Jun1908 as 1st Grade Superintendent; Served with East Africa Police 19Apr1909 to 15Jun1909 as Asst Inspector; Gold Transport Officer for the Geldenhuis Deep Group of Mines Dec1909-May1911; WWI: Enl.24Aug1914 at Broadmeadows, Vic. in 4LHR, at the time he was farming in Victoria; Emb.19Oct1914; Disch.19Apr1915 upon being selected for a temporary commission with Imperial Army; served with Grenadier Guards; Demobilized 17Jun1919 and returned to live in Australia at Melbourne, Victoria.

Wth a large amount of research and original documents including the Guards Division Order of Battle October 1910, also handwritten letters and some b&w photographs as well as part of AIF Service File.
