R.W.James 19 Bn. A.I.F. on last medal. All medals impressed.; also a WWI Memorial Plaque named to Reginald Walter James and a WWI Memorial Scroll named to Serjt. Reginald Walter James 19 Bn. A.I.F. All items laid out on a fitted board, some toning, otherwise extremely fine.

Together with a booklet titled, 'Where the Australians Rest', prepared under instructions from the Minister of State for Defence (Senator G.F.Pearce), 1920, with soft cover, 72pp with b&w images throughout.

Reginald Walter James, bookbinder, age 21, born at Marrickville, Sydney, NSW; attended Petersham Public School; Enl.24Feb1915 at Liverpool, NSW, with previous militia service with 1st and 39th Infantry Regiments NSW; to Sgt 29Mar1915; Emb.25Jun1915 with 19Bn; proceeded to join MEF at Gallipoli 16Aug1915; proceeded to join BEF in France 18Mar1916; KIA 25Aug1916, Pozieres, France; commemorated at Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La-Boisselle, France.

Among the particulars advised by his father for the Roll of Honour of Australia in the Memorial War Museum (AWM) was the following information, 'A splendid rifle shot, all round athlete, swimmer, one-man cyclist and foot-runner. He was popular with the men of the 19th Battalion and better known as "Brother" owing to his many kind acts. His cousin was awarded the Order of the Nile.'
