ANASTASIUS II, (A.D. 713-715), gold solidus, Constantinople mint, Officina S (6th officinae), (4.43 g), obv. bust facing of Anastasius II, with close beard, holding cross on globe, wearing chlamys, around dN APTEMIY A NASTASIYS MYL, rev. Cross potent on three steps, around VICTORIA AVGUS, CONOB in exergue, (S.1463, DOC 2, cf.BMC 1 = To.1, MIB 2). As struck, lightly toned, with mint bloom, good extremely fine and a very rare issue with a very sharp portrait.
Slabbed by NGC with strike 4/S, Surface 3/S.
Ex Heritage Auction Sale 3021 (lot 21454). The last example sold by Noble Numismatics Sale 68 (lot 1762), November 2001, lacked some of the obverse ethnic and it realised $2200, October 2020 sales range from ?2600 Roma and 12000 SFr. Leu Numismatik.
