ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.400-350 B.C.), silver stater, (7.65 grams), obv. head of female to left, the hair bound by a wide fillet, giving effect of a sphendone, poppyhead to right, rev. corn ear, META**PO* to left, stalk to right, above it a a large ant, (cf.S.409, Noe [NN&M 47, 1984] 468, SNG ANS 354 [same dies], SNG Lockett 396). Toned, good very fine and very rare.
