SICILY, Leontini, (c.450-440 B.C.), silver tetradrachm 25 mm, (16.61 g), obv. laureate head of Apollo to right, rev. Spaced around **L E O N T I N O N*, lion's head with open jaws to right, above, below and to right, barley grain, to left a tripod, (S.834, Boehringer 33, SNG ANS 232 var., HGC 2, 675). A lovely, toned coin with a particularly elegant early classical head of Apollo. Some very minor surface roughness, otherwise extremely fine (as described by Nomos), rare.

Ex Nomos AG, Auction 18, May 5, 2019 (lot 48) and previously listed in Auction 14, May 17 2017, from a German collection formed in the 1990s, with ticket.
