IMPERIAL SERVICE MEDAL, (EIIR Dei Gratia), George Richards Vowles. Impressed. Light hairlines, otherwise good extremely fine.

Together with case of issue, this with foxing on lid lining.

ISM: Supplement to LG 29/1/1976, p1526, awarded on retirement to George Richards Vowles, Assistant, Primary Correspondence School, Department of Education, Brisbane, Queensland.

George Richards Vowles father, Henry George Vowles, whose father George Vowles was a State school teacher, was the brother of William John Vowles, a solicitor, who was the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Dalby from 1911 to 1926 and also Leader of the Opposition in Queensland. So, George Richards Vowles' grandfather was a State school teacher and his uncle was a politician who led the Queensland Opposition party from 1920 to 1923. George Richards Vowles died on 24 July 1982.
