FAMILY GROUP: (1st and 2nd Brothers) WWI Trio (includes 2 medals to one brother and one medal to another brother): 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 2769 Pte J.O'Connell. 20/Bn. A.I.F. on first medal, 4696 Pte. P.O'Connell. 53-Bn. A.I.F. on second medal, 2769 Pte. J.O'Connell 20 Bn. A.I.F. on third medal. All medals impressed. Swing mounted, medals lacquered, otherwise fine.; (3rd Brother) WWII Group of Six: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star, - clasp - 8th Army; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. NX21015 H.O'Connell. All medals impressed. Swing mounted, some contact marks on fourth medal, otherwise good very fine.

Together with box of issue with pamphlet indicating above awards and with spare ribbons; also an unconnected court mounted pair of miniatures for Australian Defence Medal and Centenary of National Service Medal.

All three soldiers were brothers. James and Phillip O'Connell, who served in World War I, both show their address as 6 Little Burton Street, Darlinghurst. Harold O'Connell, who served in WWII, initially showed his sister as his next of kin but later changed this to his brother, Phillip O'Connell.

4696 Phillip O'Connell, storeman, age 31, born at Sydney, NSW; Enl.14Jan1917 at Sydney, NSW with previous service of 21 days in AIF (discharged 23Sep1915 medically unfit at wife's request); Emb.31Oct1917; TOS 53Bn 02Jan1918; WIA 02Sep1918; declared to be illegal absentee from 11Jan1919 until RTA 17Mar1919; Disch.06Aug1919.

NX21015 Harold O'Connell, labourer, age 21, born at Sydney, NSW; Enl.23May1940 at Paddington, Sydney, NSW; served in Middle East 19Oct1940-27Feb1942 and Borneo 08Apr1945-16Sep1945 with 2/13Bn and 2/24Bn; Disch.19Nov1945; Died 08Sep1968.
