TRIO TO KIA: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 1584 Pte D.Lamond. 2/Bn. A.I.F. on first medal, 1584 Pte. D.Lamond. 2-Bn. A.I.F. on second medal, 1584 Pte. D.Lamond 2 Bn. A.I.F. on last medal. All medals impressed. Good very fine.

Together with WWI Memorial Plaque, named to David Lamond, in original fold-over cover and with note from the King; Mother's and Widow's Ribbon (AIF), one star, number 12214 on reverse of pin-back suspension bar; original letter to Mrs D.Lamond dated 2nd October 1917 advising of the death of Private D.Lamond; Thursday Island postcard (damaged) written to Mrs D.Lamond (wife), postmarked at Valletta, Malta 17 Ap 15 and then postmarked at Portland NSW 20 May15 for re-direction to Kogarah, NSW; small tablecloth featuring a bulldog standing on a Union Jack flag but with white background and red cross and diagonal stripes, also with a few ships and an aeroplane around and below, "Staunch and True" (flag with some tears); two copies of Service File and other research.

David Lamond, quarryman, age 30, born at Sydney, NSW; Enl.25Nov1914 at Liverpool, NSW in 2Bn; Emb.05Apr1915 to join MEF at Gallipoli; reported missing 02May1915 at Gallipoli; after a Court of Inquiry held at Rouen, France 3-5Sep1917 was declared KIA at Gallipoli; Finding confirmed by Lt-Gen W.R.Birdwood 23Sep1917. In September 1915 it was reported that Pte David Lamond's brothers, Pte Sidney Lamond and Pte Alec Lamond, both died of wounds received at Gallipoli. Another brother, Stewart Lamond (enlisted 23.8.15), was in camp in Liverpool, NSW and did serve overseas and returned to Australia.

It is of interest that in May 1914 David Lamond was charged with attempting to commit suicide at Bexley by taking strychnine. At the court hearing Constable Adams gave evidence that about midnight on May 28 he saw Lamond at his residence in Harrow Road when he told him he had taken strychnine. He conveyed him to hospital. The accused pleaded guilty and explained that about four months ago he underwent an operation and had since suffered with severe pains. On the day of the offence he suffered more than usual and took the poison on the spur of the moment. He said he would not do it again. The Magistrate sentenced him to one hour's imprisonment but permitted the accused to leave the court forthwith.
