Holey Dollars & Dumps
Lot 596 SESSION 5 (7.30PM TUESDAY 22ND NOV) Holey Dollars & Dumps
Estimate $3,500
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $2,800
NEW SOUTH WALES, fifteen pence or dump, 1813, die struck contemporary counterfeit in copper (5.15g). Even brown patina, test punch mark on obverse, otherwise good fine/very fine and extremely rare.
Due to the lack of corrosion, as most known examples display, it is possible that this example is not from the Pitt Street Tank Stream find. This is possibly the finest known example notwithstanding the weakly struck area at the top of the obverse and the test punch mark at the top of the crown.
Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
