MID TRIO TO NURSING SISTER: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory medal 1914-19 with MID. Sister. L.F.Smart. A.N.S. A.I.F. on first medal, Sister L.F.Smart A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Display mounted, toned good very fine.

MID: LG Third Supplement No.29632 21/6/1916; CAG No.129, 21/9/1916, Administration in Egypt, to Sister L.F.Smart, AAMC 'for gallant and distinguished services in the Field'.

Together with matching set of miniature medals; riband bar; Aust Trained Nurses' Association, Obstetric, badge in sterling silver and enamel, pin-back (pin detached but included in lot), reverse inscribed, 'L.F.Smart/Jan 17, 1912'; Royal British Nurses' Assocn, badge (KC), in bronze with pin-back suspender 'Steadfast & True', reverse of badge inscribed, 'L.F.Smart/5446'; A.A.M.C. small pin-back suspender, reverse inscribed 334; Rising Sun collar badges in silver (2, one marked sterling silver), both pin-back; pair of red felt shoulder boards with metal pips for rank of Lieutenant and also with small Australian Military Forces securing buttons and Australia metal titles; WWI Returned from Active service badge (AIF); WWI Nearest Female Relatives' badge (AIF), reverse numbered 119946 (issued to mother, Mrs Lucy Emma Smart, Baker's gully); Returned Sailors & Soldiers Imperial League badge (large 2 figure type), reverse numbered 9352; another same but small version with 1923 overlay on crown, reverse numbered 7771.

Lucretia Flower Smart, nurse, trained at Adelaide Hospital and graduated in 1908, age 36, born at Baker's Gully, Clarendon, Sth Aust; at the time of enlisting was the Sister in charge of Opthalmic, Gynaecological and Surgical wards at Adelaide Hospital; Enl.30Aug1914; appt'd Staff Nurse 21Nov1914; Promoted to Nursing Sister; Emb.05Dec1914 with Nursing Staff to 2AGH; left Gezira, Egypt for transport duty on hospital ship 'Borda' returning to Australia 14Nov1915; married on 10Feb1916 at St George Church, Goodwood, Adelaide, Sth Aust to Sergeant Arthur Percy Rose, AIF Army Pay Corps; duty with 7AGH to Egypt on hospital ship 'Borda' 23Feb1916; Disch.22Jun1916 Medically Unfit ex 2AGH; Died at Fullarton, Sth Aust 29Aug1972; Buried at AIF Cemetery, West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, Sth Aust; commemorated at Clarendon Methodist Church and Sunday School Honour Board, Clarendon War Memorial, Keswick South Australian Army Nurses Roll of Honor, Unley Town Hall WWI Honour Board.
