GREAT BRITAIN, 96th (Manchester) Regiment of Foot, 1824-55, officer's shoulder belt plate in gilt and white metal, probably silver, much of the gilt with a matt finish, with original leather backing. Nearly extremely fine.

The 96th arrived in Australia in 26 detachments during 1841. The Headquarter Company was established at Windsor, New South Wales and six detachments were posted to Hobart. In 1843 the Headquarters was sent to Launceston, Tasmania where it remained until 1848. The regiment sailed for India in January 1849.
