SOLD $240
INDIA, Mughal, Muhammad Akbar (A.H.963-1014, A.D.1556-1605) silver anonymous rupee, (11.38 g), the rebelion coinage struck by Prince Salim at Allahabad mint with Persian couplet both sides, (Like gold of the sun and moon, may ever be current in the world's east and west, the coin of Allahabad), IE 49 (1604-5 A.D.), (KM.97.1, Liddle Akbar S59). Bright, nearly extremely fine, rare.
During the last decade of Akbar's reign, his son Salim, the later emperor Jahangir grew increasingly restive in his desire to assume supreme power. He rebelled outright several times and as governor of the Subah of Allahabad, refused to recognize Akbar's suzerainty. He issued coins from this mint anonymously without following the imperial style.
