ISLAND OF VAN DIEMEN'S LAND, Conditional Pardon on vellum and dated 5 July 1848 for Charles Heatherington originally tried at Moulmein and sentenced to Life and transported to Van Diemen's Land on the ship, Strathisla, a condition of the pardon being that he not return to the East India Company's Possessions, signed at Hobart Town by Sir William Thomas Denison, Lieutenant-Governor, with large wax seal. Three folds and some foxing, otherwise fine.

Charles Heatherington was a soldier born in 1800 at Armagh, Ireland and married with three children in Madras, India. He was serving with the East India Company in India and was convicted at Moulmein on 17 March 1836 for Sodomy and sentenced to transportation for life.^^Sir William Thomas Denison KCB was Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land from 1847 to 1855. He was also Governor of New South Wales from 1855 to 1861 and then Governor of Madras from 1861 to 1866.
