ISLAND OF VAN DIEMEN'S LAND, Attorney-General's charge sheet on vellum and dated 15 April 1844 against Michael Norton of Richmond for the theft of one hat to the value of ten shillings from John Melven, signed by the prosecutor, Thomas Horne, at left is written, 'Plea Not Guilty'. Stains and foxing and some edge nicks, otherwise very good.

Thomas Horne had a very troubled financial history and only held the position of Attorney-General for a short time although he did hold many other government positions even being elected to the Legislative Council as the member for Hobart.
