ROYAL NAVY PAY SLIP, a large foolscap sized printed form with handwritten details for Midshipman Arthur Packe on the ship, 'Rattlesnake', dated at Hobart Town on 30 June 1847 and with stamp of Union Bank of Australia, Hobart Town, approved by Captain Owen Stanley of HMS Rattlesnake, with signed payment instructions on reverse. Some edge tears and a small amount of foxing, otherwise fine.

The Leicestershire Record Office holds the journal of Arthur Packe on surveying voyages of HMS Rattlesnake and Bramble, 26 November 1846 to 2 December 1849 including in the Bass Strait, the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait as well as his relations with Captain Owen Stanley and others.^^The above Pay Slip mostly relates to the voyage of HMS Rattlesnake that left England on 11 December 1846, arrived at Madeira on 18th, sailed again on the 26th; arrived at Rio de Janeiro on 23 January 1847, sailed on 2 February; arrived at Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope, 9 March, sailed on 10 April; arrived at Mauritius 4 May, sailed on 17th; and arrived at Hobart Town on 25 June 1847.
