EUBOIA, Karystos, (issue of Alexander, son of Krateros a tyrant in the late third century B.C., c.253/2-245 B.C.), silver stater, (6.89 g), obv. male head bound with royal diadem to right, dotted border, rev. Nike in galloping biga to left, **KARUSTIW[N]* in exergue, (S.2511, BMC 18, Wallace "A Tyrant of Karystos" in Essays to Robinson, obv.V, rev.9 example b [This Coin, unlisted dies], Lanz BCD Sale lots 578 [This Coin], cf.SNG Sweden 1452, cf.ACNAC Dewing 1532, HGC 4, 1560). Nearly extremely fine and very rare.

Ex Numismatik Lanz Munchen Auction 111, 25 November 2002 (lot 578, where it realised 1100 euros) coming from the BCD Collection bought from A.Hess AG Sale 253 8-9 March 1983 (lot 183), realised 2900 +15% SFr. Lot includes BCD ticket and original Lanz photos and the ticket for the A. Hess auction.
