FAMILY GROUP: (Father) DCM Group of Three: Distinguished Conduct Medal (GVR in Field Marshall's uniform); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 87175 2/Cpl-A.Cpl-L.Hughes. R.E. on first medal, 87175 Cpl. L.Hughes. R.E. on second and third medals.: (Son) Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45. Unnamed as issued. The named medals impressed. Two groups, some light hairlines on first three medals and a few very small edge nicks on first two medals, otherwise toned nearly extremely fine - nearly uncirculated.

Together with RAF officer's embroidered bullion and gilt hat badge (KC); note from the Under-Secretary of State for Air by Command of the Air Council accompanying issue of two WWII medals; large b&w photo of L.Hughes in civilian clothes.

DCM: LG 11/3/1920, p3056, to 87175 2/Cpl. (A./Cpl.) L.Hughes, 204th Fd. Coy., R.E. (Wolverhampton) - For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the period of 17th September to 11th November, 1918. On various occasions during this period he made bold reconnaissances by himself under fire, and obtained valuable information in connection with the crossing of the River Lys and Scheldt. During the same period he also carried out very useful work in connection with hostile road mines.

(Father) Leonard Hughes, born Aug1890 at Wolverhampton, England; served in WWI with 204th Field Coy, Royal Engineers; rankings Acting Cpl in 1914, Cpl in 1914, 2nd Cpl in 1920; Died 1951 at Hastings, England.

(Son) Robert John Hughes, born 19Jun1920 at Kings Norton, Birmingham, England; attended King Edward VI School; served as an officer in Royal Air Force in WWII.
