ROSE ROAD RACE, fob medal, c1912, handcrafted in gold (probably 9ct, 9.4g, 40x40mm), by W.D. (William Dunlop, Christchurch), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'The/Rose/Leads', reverse inscribed 'Rose/Road/Race/15 Miles/Won by/T.Codling.'. Very fine.

6/1074A Pte Thomas Codling, carpenter, age 28 of St Albans, a well-known cycle road-racer serving with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion was wounded at Gallipoli on 5 May 1915 and killed in action at Gallipoli on 7 August 1915.
