RIVIERA PRINCIPALITY, Prince MacDonald, set of five cents, ten cents, twenty cents, fifty cents, one dollar and two dollars, 1996. Good extremely fine. (6)

The Riviera Principality was founded in 1996 in Marlborough by 'Prince MacDonald' aka Macky Neame. It was established with the intention of creating the New Zealand equivalent of Australia's Hutt River Province Principality. The Principality comprised a market centre, boutique brewery, wine shop, conference centre and tavern. The Principality no longer exists, having failed to overcome a number of obstacles in the way of Prince MacDonald's ambitious project. The private coinage issued by the short-lived Principality is seldom seen. Stamps and banknotes were also issued for use within the 'micro-nation'.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price.
