BRITISH WAR MEDAL 1914-18. 4017 Pte J.D.Whitehead. 1 Bn. A.I.F. Impressed. Some contact marks, otherwise toned good very fine.

Entitled to 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal 1914-19.
Joseph Dixon Whitehead, gas fitter, age 37, born at Lancashire, England with wife living in Toronto, Canada; Enl.12Dec1915 at Liverpool, Sydney, NSW with previous Scottish service in South Africa and also 4 months with Buffalo Infantry; Emb.11Dec1915 for Middle East service with 1Bn; sick with eye cataract 22-24Feb1916; to 1Pnr Bn at Serapeum 10Mar1916; to France 26Mar1916 and ops in France and Flanders; sick with cataract 03Oct1916 and to Dover Military Hospital - right eye had been damaged due to an explosion and sight of that eye was lost; to camp at Perham Downs then Weymouth and finally to AIF HQs London 27Apr1917; Disc.27Apr1917 Medically Unfit and intended to live at Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England.
