Following the death of Henry Guscott the following article was published in the Murray Pioneer (Renmark, South Australia) on Thursday 30 March 1944, page 4.
Mr. H. G. J. Guscott, Renmark Fruitgrower
Henry George Jackson Guscott, who died in Adelaide on March 7, was a well known fruitgrower member of the RSL at Renmark. He was born in Devonshire, England, 49 years ago, and married Miss E. Quarterly. There are two children, a boy and a girl. He, with his brothers came out to Australia in 1912. When World War I broke out he joined the AIF and served throughout the war. Deceased had a fruit block on Block E where he had lived for a number of years. He had been ill for three months. Brothers are Messrs. Ted and Jack Guscott, both also fruit growers, on Block E. The funeral took place on March 8 the cortege moving off from the Church of England. About 20 cars followed the hearse, and round the graveside a number of friends and relatives gathered, including Signaller R. E. Guscott, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Guscott. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Christopher Gray. Pallbearers were Messrs. J. M. G. Thompson (president of the Druid's), A. Harrip (Druids), G. Ash (RSL), A. R. Farmer (RSL), A. Pannach, and L. J. Price. The coffin, shrouded by the Union Jack, was covered with floral tributes from many friends, including the RSL, Crowe and Newcombe Ltd, Druids Lodge, and the 43rd Battalion Club. Arrangements were in the hands of Mr. R. Douglass.
Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, Henry Guscott was a dour man of Devon and bore his illness with fortitude. He was a good soldier and citizen, and when the news of his death was known the flag was half-masted over the RSL club-room, of which he had been a member for a long period. Mr. Farmer recited the soldiers' requiem over the grave. The old soldier leaves a widow, a daughter Moya and son Denzil.
