REPUBLIC, Julius Caesar, (assassinated 44 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome Mint, issued January-February 44 B.C., (4.08 g), issued in the name of the moneyer M. Mettius, obv. wreathed head of Caesar to right, CAESAR IMP before, lituus and simpulum behind, rev. Venus Victrix standing to left, holding Victory on extended right hand, and sceptre in left hand, her left arm resting on shield set on globe, to right M METTIV[S], control letter K in left field, (S.1419, Cr. 480/3, Syd. 1056). Toned, good very fine with an attractrive portrait, scarce type.
