"ZINGARA", an Edward VII Great Britain halfcrown (32mm), ring top added, smoothed out reverse with the following inscribed 'Docking/and/Undocking/1910'. Toned, very fine.
Possibly given as a prize medal.
The schooner-scow "Zingara" (185 tons) was built in 1906 at Auckland, by George Niccol, and was launched on 20 October 1906. She was well known in the intercolonial trades, and was sold to Allen, Taylor and Company on 4 May 1910, and later bought by Winstone Limited, Auckland on 6 October 1919. The "Zingara" was totally wrecked at Hokitika on 16 January 1929.
