Charles Henry Sharp Williams, draper's assistant and later director Cheese and Butter Company, born 26Oct1862 at Islington, England; served part time duty with London Scottish Regiment; came to Australia in 1880 and was a founding member of the Eastern Suburban Volunteers in Adelaide, Sth Aust and of G Coy, Mount Gambier, Sth Aust; to lieut 12Jun1900; later in 1Bn Sth Aust Infy Regt; to Unallotted List as Captain 04Feb1908; to Unallotted List 15Mar1910; to Retired List as Major 01Jul1914; Charles H.S. Williams was known as Daddy Williams in the Renmark area of Sth Aust and was a keen Freemason; Died 28Jul1941.

OBITUARY
Major C. H. S. Williams,
Berri July 31.
The death, at the age of 80 years of Charles Henry Sharpe Williams removes from the district one who has been respected and loved by all those with whom he has come in contact during the 30 odd years that he had lived in the up-river areas. "Daddy" Williams, as he was generally known, was quite a familiar figure in Loxton, Berri, and Renmark, and although many realized that his health had been failing of late, the end was not expected so soon and the news at the early part of the week came as a shock to his many friends.
Arriving in Australia from England in 1880, he was for a number of years employed with Charles Birks & Co in Adelaide, but in the late "nineties" he went into business partnership at Mt. Gambier, trading as Williams and Daniels. While at Mt. Gambler he commenced his military activities, and, with the rank of major, was commanding officer of the Mt. Gambier Scottish. He was later in business at Ardrossan, and then in 1917 came to Loxton as manager for A. H. Landseer Ltd, a position which he held until he retired in 1934. The latter years of his life were spent with his daughters. He was taken ill on Sunday at Renmark and brought down from there to the Berri Hospital, where he passed away shortly after 9 on Monday morning. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Berri cemetery, the Rev. P. H. Smith conducting the service at the graveside.
The late Mr Williams was a keen Freemason, having been a Past Master of Leopold Lodge and a foundation member of the Loxton Lodge. He had held office on Grand Lodge. His widow Mrs. E. M. Williams survives him, as well as his three daughters, Mrs. A. G. Price (widow of the late Capt. J. H. M. Price, Renmark), Mrs. A. C. Gordon (Adelaide), and Mrs. J. McKay (Berri).
