DFC GROUP OF FOUR, replicas plus an original Distinguished Flying Cross, GRI 1918, with pin-back ribbon suspender, reverse bottom arm of cross inscribed 1945. Unnamed. The original DFC in case of issue, toned uncirculated.

Citation: Flight Lieutenant Ottaway has completed numerous operations against the enemy in the course of which he has invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion to duty.
Together with display board with RAAF bullion wings above RAF officer's side cap badge, a Pathfinders badge and an as new arm/blazer badge; Flt/Lt C.L.Ottaway's pilot's log book; 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II medal in case of issue; Bomber Command clasp instituted in February 2013; b&w photo of Ottway in a decorative metal frame (approx 9x15cm) under glass, with RAAF badge at top edge, with pull-out stand bracket on rear; b&w photo of 635 Pathfinder Squadron in front of a Lancaster bomber, under glass in a timber frame (approx 55x29.5cm); large display under glass in a timber frame (approx 65x75cm), features copies of pilot's wings, Pathfinders badge, DFC, 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal 1939-45, four b&w photos including one of Ottaway, one of a Lancaster with bomb bay doors open, air crew next to a graffitied plane used to transport POWs home after the war, and 635 Squadron in front of a Lancaster (same as separate framed photo), also Pathfinder Force certificate to Ottaway and a record of history of Flt/Lt Ottaway; also a large number of photos and newspaper cuttings.
Colin Lindsay Ottaway, born 02Nov1923 in Bedfordale, WA; Enl.16Dec1940 in 16Bn AIF; Disch.17Jan1942; Enl.19Jul1942 in RAAF; commenced flight training at Cunderdin, WA 20Nov1942; joined 365 Pathfinder Sqn RAF; from 14Oct1944 to 18Apr1945 commanded and flew Lancaster bombing missions, mainly over Germany (10 day and 34 night operations); his aircraft crash landed on 23Oct1944 after returning from a bombing mission after being hit by a German fighter attack and anti-aircraft fire; all the crew escaped injury but the aircraft was destroyed; part of a raid on 09Apr1945 targeting the battleship, Admiral Scheer, that was sunk whilst it was in Kiel Harbour; awarded his Pathfinders badge (25 missions) on 18May1945; awarded DFC on 17Jul1945; prior to returning to Australia was engaged in repatriation flights of Allied POWs from France using his Lancaster; RTA 02Jul1945; Disch.20Nov1945; Died 29Aug1996 at Parth, WA; Colin Otaway's borther, Winton Greer Ottaway, served in 460 Squadron of the RAAF; he was shot down on 21Nov1944 flying his 4th Lancaster mission on the Aschaffenberg raid over Germany and his body was never formally identified.
With extensive research for Colin Lindsay Ottaway and also his brother, Winton Greer Ottaway, who was killed-in-action as well as a letter of provenance from the widow of C.L.Ottaway re the sale of the DFC and service items.
