SEACLIFF, stock medal, in gold (15ct, 9.74g, 25mm), by G. & T.Y. (G. & T.Young, Dunedin), scroll and ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'Presented/To/Pvt.W.J.Barnes/By The/Residents of Seacliff/June 13th 1919', reverse inscribed 'In/Recognition/Of His/Services/In The/Great War'. Needs cleaning, otherwise very fine.
Ex Mowbray Collectables Numismatic Auction 25 (lot 200). ^^A welcome social, under the auspices of the Seacliff Soldiers' Welfare Association, was held on 13 June 1919 in the Seacliff Mental Hospital Hall in honour of 29 returned soldiers who were presented by the residents of the district with gold medals in recognition of their services in the war.^^10/4451 Pte Walter James Barnes, 11th Reinforcements, Wellington Infantry Battalion, B Company, embarked from New Zealand 1 April 1916.
