TOTARA HAZELBURN RAINCLIFF OPIHI DISTRICTS, hand engraved in gold (9ct, 9.60g, 27x27mm), by P. Ltd (Petersen, Christchurch), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'JAP', reverse inscribed 'Lance Cpl./J.A.Pearce/26th Reinf/Sailed 9-6-17/Returned/21-8-19'.Very fine.
47360 Lance Corporal John Andrew Pearce, farm hand, born 16 August 1890 at Pleasant Point, enlisted 20 February 1917 in 26th Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company, NZEF, embarked from New Zealand 9 June 1917. Returned to NZ 2 July 1919 and discharged 17 September 1919. Died at Pleasant Point on 9 November 1922 when struck by lightning.
