W.P.P.S., stock fob medal, in gold (9ct, 7.4g, 32x30mm), no maker, ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'N.Z./1919', reverse inscribed 'W.P.P.S./A.W.Curry/52963'. Very fine.

52963 Cpl Alfred Walter Curry, 27th Reinforcements, F Company, NZEF, embarked from New Zealand 16 July 1917.^Awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the morning of 18th August in Puisieux, Private Curry was in command of a Lewis gun section. When the enemy attacked further to the left he rushed this gun forward and absolutely into the open. From here he caught the enemy in the flank and greatly assisted in breaking up the attack. The enemy directed the fire of two machine guns on him at close range, besides rifle fire and bombs, but he held his ground until the attack collapsed. This man showed great courage and absolute disregard for danger. Brother of thee other WW1 soldiers, Albert Bert (KIA), Frederick John and William Charles Curry.
