WWI WATCH FOB, an enamelled lieutenant's dress uniform shoulder 'pip' with solid reverse, suspended from a black ribbon with 9ct rose gold fittings and brass fob clip, the reverse of the pip inscribed '10/1149/Lieut. R.J.Kemp/Promoted on the field/1st. January 1917/Fleurbaix./France/Major. Saxby'. Solder spot on ribbon bar, otherwise fine - very fine and unusual.

Richard John Kemp (1889-1964), embarked from New Zealand in 1914 and served with the Engineers at Gallipoli. He was then posted to the Maori Pioneers Battalion and was badly wounded in 1917. His commanding officer in the Maori Pioneers Battalion was Major Saxby (DSO, MID) who served in the Boer War and then with the Auckland Mounted Rifles. He died in England in 1918, a victim of the 'Influenza Epidemic'.
