NEW ZEALAND SURF LIFE SAVING ASSOCIATION, uniface, struck in silver and blue enamel (28mm), by M&K (Mayer & Kean, Wellington), ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Nelson Shield/1936/G.Williams.'. Handling marks on reverse, otherwise extremely fine/very fine.

G.Williams was a member of the Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club that won the Nelson Shield (senior 6-man championship) at the New Zealand Surfing Championships held at St Clair, Dunedin in 1936. Medals were distributed at the annual dinner of the Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club in March and the club patron, Mr Len Blundell, congratulated the club on retaining the Nelson Shield, the blue riband event of life saving.
