The Girl Peace Scouts organisation was established in New Zealand by Lieutenant Colonel David Cossgrove and his wife Selina in 1908. Initially it was based in Christchurch but by 1912 it had spread throughout New Zealand and had more than 2,000 members. The girls were involved in outdoor activities similar to the Boy Scouts but were also instructed in ambulance, first aid, home nursing, care of infants, invalid cookery and other household arts. Her Excellency Lady Islington, was the wife of the The Right Honourable The Lord Islington, Governor of New Zealand, and she was patron of the Girl Peace Scouts during his tenure of office from 22 June 1910 until 3 December 1912 at which time she left New Zealand with her husband who had been appointed President of the Royal Commission on the Public Services of India.^^With research.
