UNITED FIRE BRIGADES ASSOCIATION OF N Z, Long Service Medal for five years service, in silver (38mm), no maker, reverse inscribed 'Kaiapoi/Volunteer Fire Brigade/Borough Council Award/To/Branchman J.Winterbourn/For Five Years Service/Joined Sept 20th 1880'; also LR (Lyttelton Regatta), handcrafted in silver (38mm), no maker, ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'L R/1886/Champion Fours/Won by/Cure B.C./J.Winterbourne (sic)/Stroke'. The Lyttelton Regatta was held on New Year's Day. The Senior Four-oared Outrigger Race was won by Cure Boating Club - G.Wright (bow), R.Day (2), A.Winterbourne (sic) (3), J.Winterbourne (sic) (stroke). The Cure Boating Club was established in 1868 and J.Winterbourn was the club captain for some years including 1886.^^John Winterbourn was the son of an early Kaiapoi settler and a well known local identity. He was a champion rower and he was also a well known foreman at Kaiapoi Woollen Mills.
