HVFB (HAWERA VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE), 1899, fob medal, handcrafted in voided gold (9ct, 5.65g, 23x33mm), by CES (possibly Charles Edward Soloman, Birmingham), ring tp suspension, reverse inscribed 'One Man Engine/1st Prize/won by/Lieut F.E.Saunders'. Good extremely fine.

A fire brigade sports event was held on the Hawera Recreation Ground between brigadesmen from Wanganui, New Plymouth, Stratford and Hawera in early April 1899. The One Man Manual (dry) event for Mr F.S.Cooper's Gold Medal was won by Lieut F.Saunders from Hawera V.F.B.
