Miss Moya Cooper-Smith of St Helier's Bay won the Champion Violin Solo open event in 1929 by playing 'Legende' by Wieniawski. As a solo violinist and pianist she entered into a career in music playing at clubs, concerts, and music festivals as well as performing on live radio programmes. In the 1960s, now as Moya Rea, she was appointed an accompanist playing in various venues in Hong Kong. She is also credited with naming the famous Hong Kong singing group, the Allegro Singers, instead of the Ming-yee chorus. The group was founded by Paris-trained soprano, Barbara Fei Ming-yee, and after Moya Rea had accompanied them in a performance, she suggested the name.
