ARC (AUCKLAND RACING CLUB), Life Member fob medal struck in gold (probably 9ct, 4.08g, 19.5mm), by A.T. (Anton Teutenberg, Auckland), suspension loop removed and pierced hole at top for suspension, reverse inscribed 'Colon(el) Fraser' (D&C.R6). Fine.

Colonel William Fraser sat as a member of the Liberal Party in the House of Representatives for the Thames from 1884 to 1894, at which time he was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms of the New Zealand parliament. At one time he was Resident Magistrate and Warden on the Thames goldfields, prior to which he had served in the Waikato with the colonial field forces. He was in Australia when war broke out and then, offered a commission as a captain, he came back to New Zealand to serve in the war. He formed a company from the 1st Waikato Regiment, raised in Australia, and Fraser Street at Tauranga is named in his honour after he fought at the Battle of Te Ranga on 21 June 1864.^^He was also Mayor of Thames from 1882 to 1887. He was a keen sportsman and took considerable interest in racing matters and he was also a Past Master of Lodge Corinthian. Colonel Fraser died at his residence at the Thames on 17 September 1901 at the age of 73. His funeral was held on 19 September and his body interred in the Tararu Cemetery near the Thames.
