BUTCHERS' PICNIC, 1904, fob medal, hand engraved in gold (9ct, 7.54g, 28x28mm), by Ashton. (R.Ashton, Invercargill), ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Clifton/130 Yds. Handicap/Won By/F.Wallis'. Fine and rare.

The Butchers' Picnic was held at Clifton on grounds provided by the Clifton Athletic Society. About 200 people attended this annual fixture and this number was largely supplemented by local residents. The Butchers' Handicap was won rather easily by Wallis of Bluff from the 10 yards mark.^^With research.
