SILVER VESTA, a high quality plain case (46x55mm), hallmarked for Birmingham 1934 by maker H.H.P (Henry Hodson Plante, London), the front of the case with the impressed armorial crest of Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester, stored in a fitted case with the same crest gold blocked on the lid and on the silk lined underside of the lid is the crest of His Majesty the King and the maker's name, Plante. Hairlines, otherwise extremely fine.

Together with a hand written note that reads 'Silver match box Presented to James John Sparks by Duke of Gloucester for organising security of his tour of NZ in 1934.' ^^Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester KG, KT, KP, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, PC was the third son and fourth child of King George V and Queen Mary. He made an official visit to Australia and New Zealand in 1934 and from 1945 to 1947 was Governor General of Australia, the only member of the British royal family to hold that post. ^^The following courtesy of National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past - from the Poverty Bay Herald on 12 December 1934, page 3. 'Sergeant J.J. Sparks, of Tokomaru Bay, and Constable E.A. Gatehouse, of Gisborne, who are to be members of the special police escort for the Duke of Gloucester throughout his New Zealand tour, left Gisborne, this afternoon for Wellington.'
