MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.57 g), Sidon Mint, issued c.333-305 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet with Pegasos motif, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath and ship's mast, in lower right field a caduceus, to left **[A]LEXANDROU*, (cf.S.6702, Price 3458, M 205, SNG Berry 176). Well centred, extremely fine with traces of mint bloom and a scarce variety.
