SICILY, Messana, (425-421 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.24 g), obv. biga of mules driven to right by standing female charioteer, above Nike standing to right on reins, in exergue olive leaf with fruit, rev. **MESS A N I ON around, below hare bounding to right a dolphin to right, (S.851, Caltabiano 488, Rizzo pl. XXVI, 5, SNG Hunterian 10, SNG Munich 650). Lightly toned, well centred, nearly extremely fine and very rare.
