GROUP OF FIVE TO COMMANDO: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Burma Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45. All medals unnamed as issued. Swing mounted, some light contact marks, otherwise good very fine.

Together with,^1) Daily Sketch Baby Competition certificate awarded to Frank Hide in April 1919.^2) A large number of military photos.^3) A large number of war related photos from a magazine as well as newspaper cuttings and other items.^4) Burma Star Association lapel badge (KC), pin-back in gilt and enamel.^5) The Burma Star Association Rules 1951 booklet. ^6) The above items stored in a large Cuttings Book.^Sgt Frank Hide 14610920, served in World War 2 with 4 Troop 1 Commando Regiment. He died 7 August 1992 with the funeral service held at Holy Trinity, Stevenage. A newspaper article on his death reads as follows. 'Ex-Councillor dies aged 75. A former chairman of Stevenage Borough Council, who was involved in the creation of the new town, has died at the age of 75. Frank Hide, of Longthorne Avenue, Stevenage, died on Friday August 7, just five days after celebrating his 46th wedding anniversary. He was also a Labour councillor for many years after being elected in 1953. One of his daughters, Doreen Loose, said among the many committees he sat on was the planning committee when the council was planning and developing the new town of Stevenage. In 1959, as chairman of the council, he escorted the Queen when she visited the town.^During the war years Mr Hide served with the British number one Commandos in Norway, Egypt, India, Burma, Ceylon and Hong Kong. He came close to death while suffering from malaria in Burma but survived to collect a number of medals including the Burma Star. He leaves a widow, Anne, three daughters and a son.'
