QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - four clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. 184 Pte J.H.Johnson. Tasmanian I.B. Impressed. Nicely toned, extremely fine.

Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 116 (lot 5134) and previously I.S.Wright, September 2007.^^184 Joseph Henry Johnson of 'Larnoo', Bagdad, Tasmania. Name incorrectly recorded on nominal roll for No.1 Coy 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen as 184 Johnstone, J.H.^^Together with 2TIB (2 Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen) brass shoulder title; folding utensils set by Singleton & Priestman of Sheffield, includes fold-out knife, fork and spoon, metal cover inscribed on one side, 'J.H.H. 184. T.I.B.'; smoking pipe; walking stick with silver end piece and silver top band marked 'W.Golding/Stg.Silver' and inscribed, 'Presented to/Trooper J.H.Johnson/2nd T.I.B./Returned 15.6.02'; Boer War greeting cards with printed triple leaf-like inserts, one features emus on the centre leaf and the other features a wounded soldier, also various photos and documents relating to Johnson and his war service; a large family photo album, also includes some memorial cards for family members; various photos (over 70) relating to J.H.Johnson's son who served in WWII with RANR, noted a Leave Ticket for HMAS Huon 9-5-46 to 8-6-46, and an HMAS Cerberus Christmas Day 1940 Menu card.
