FAMILY GROUP: (Father) Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 2 reverse with evidence of ghost dates), - five clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. 217 Pte J.T.Skelton, Queensland M.R. Impressed.; (Son) Group of Seven to WIA: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Tobruk Siege 1941 Medal. NX 2014 J G Skelton on first three medals, NX2014 J. G. Skelton on fourth to sixth medals and J.Skelton NX2014 on last medal. The first three medals and the last medal engraved, the other three medals impressed.; (Son's Wife) Group of Four: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal. WFX17044 D.A.Brown. All medals impressed. The first medal with some bumps to the first three clasps and a few dig marks on Queen's cheek, otherwise good very fine, the group of seven display mounted, extremely fine and the group of four with mark on King's cheek on third medal, otherwise uncirculated.

Includes Rising Sun collar badge in oxidised bronze; Female Relative badge, WWII, by G & E Rodd, 1940, numbered on reverse A42655, with one star, pin-back with safety chain; Returned From Active Service badge (KC) in oxidised bronze, reverse numbered A402026 (Wife's badge); 2/9th Aust Infy Bn colour patch enamelled badge with pin-back and below is suspended a silver plate inscribed, '9th Inf. Batt./NX2014; Thirty Niners Assoc Life Member badge in gilt and enamel (KC), pin-back; War Savings Certificates For Service badge in gilt and enamel, pin-back but pin missing, reverse numbered 184; buttons for Australian Military Forces (KC) medium size; artillery button, possibly French; also Polish Army general service eagle hat badge WWII (the Polish Army relieved the brigade in which John Skelton served in Tobruk); book titled 'Not A Conquering Hero', The Siege of Tobruk, Battles of Milne Bay, Buna, Shaggy Ridge, by Frank Rolleston, foreword by Keith Payne V.C., D.S.C. (USA), Silver Star (USA), Cross of Gallantry (VN), 206pp with dust jacket and hard cover, b&w photos and maps throughout, published 1984, autographed by the author below a penned whole page hand written tribute to Jack Skelton, who is also mentioned throughout the book - pages 17 (pic), 18 (pic), 69 (pic), 87, 88, 100, 111, and 116; with box of issue for wife's medals with brochure on notes and guidance for wear. ^Father: John Telfer Skelton, station overseer, age 25, born at Kandy, Ceylon; Enl.10Jan1902 at Brisbane, Qld; served with 4th (Queensland Imperial Bushmen) Contingent; married Pauline Underwood on 06Dec1906; Died 01May1910 at Brisbane, Qld at the age of 33 leaving a wife and young son.^Son: John Geddes Skelton, station overseer, age 31, born at Roma, Qld; Enl.13Oct1939 at Inverell, NSW in 2/4Bn; next of kin was his mother Pauline Skelton; served in Middle East 05May1940 to 28Mar1942, New Guinea 07Aug1942 to 11Jan1943 and 12Sep1943 to 26Mar1944; WIA 05Sep1942 GSW left groin and shrapnel wound to right leg; Disch.12Apr1944 as Cpl ex 2/9 Aust Infy Bn.^Son's Wife: Dorothy Alma Brown, dressmaker, age 34, born at Boulder, WA; Enl.13Nov1941 at Perth, WA while serving as Cpl with 118 AGH; served in New Guinea 12Sep1943 to 27Jun1944; Disch.01Aug1946 as Cpl in Services Training Centre; post war married John Geddes Skelton.^On 18 September 1958 J.G.Skelton wrote a letter from Premer Pastoral Company Pty Limited at Quirindi, NSW to the War Records Office stating that he had received three medals and enquiring as to the whereabouts of his remaining service medals as he had been admitted to the Thirty Niners Association. A letter from Central Army Records on 24 Sep 1958 advised that his Defence, War and Australia Service Medals would be named and mailed as soon as possible. It also stated that awards already issued were unnamed and they should be returned for inscription. About the same time his wife Dorothy Skelton (nee Brown) also wrote a letter from Premer Pastoral Company Pty Limited at Quirindi, NSW requesting her medals and a RAS badge as she wished to attend meetings at the RSL and the Thirty Niners Association meetings with her husband.
