TRENCH ART, World War I, copper bladed scimitar letter opener, at the handle end is a bullet and attached to the side of the bullet is an Imperial German Army Prussian crown uniform button and at the end is affixed a British General Service button, on one side of the blade is inscribed, 'Sergt. Adel', and on the opposite side is inscribed, '1919/Abbeville'. Fine.
Abbeville is a commune in France and for much of World War I it was the headquarters of the Commonwealth lines of communication and No.3 British Red Cross Society, No.2 and No.5 Stationary Hospitals were stationed there at various times from October 1914 to January 1920.
