TRENCH ART, book ends made from aircraft starter engine shell casings (2), both marked on base, 'Cart Elec. Eng. Start MF 65/34 and 23 ME/65', with smaller shell casings fitted as handles, all items chromed, inside the large casings is three quarters filled with what appears to be concrete, on one side of each is inscribed, 'Phan Rang/67 - 68'. With some dents on edges of casings and oxidation on handle arms, otherwise fine. (2)

During the Vietnam War there was an USA Air Base at Phan Rang in South Vietnam.
